The Perfect Rain/Non-Rain Boot

Wednesday December 10, 2014

San Francisco continues to get soaked; I’ve taken up wearing these everyday.

There’s always the same conundrum with real rain boots. Do you wear them on a rainy morning, and risk having to lug them around when the skies turn blue? Maybe it’s not raining, but it’s supposed to rain — do you want to leave the apartment in rain boots when there’s no actual rain falling? What if there’s a chance it might not rain at all?

Enter the Frye Engineer Boots. The rain boot that doesn’t scream RAIN BOOT.

Frye doesn’t advertise them as being waterproof, but I wear them in wet weather all the time…and no problems with water seeping in. I’ll only pull out my Hunter boots when it’s monsoon conditions.

The boots are sturdy as all get out (and made in the U.S.A.); mine are 2 years old and all seams are completely intact. The rubber sole with tread stands up really well to mud and/or chasing children. As with all rain boots, pants are tucked safely inside so no wet hems to drag around once you’re indoors.

(Mine are the Frye Engineer Boot, dark brown, 12R’s.)
