My SF Momiform: Winter 2016

Wednesday January 6, 2016

Funny how daily uniforms sneak up on you. I’ve been wearing this for over a month now, so I can attest to it: it is the new winter momiform. Appropriate for playgrounds, libraries, museums, brunch, rainy days, cold days, special outings, and even date night (with slight tweaks).

This new modish silhouette for 2015/2016 is perfection and so SO EASY. The only thing I really added here were the stovepipe boots. The flat, leather and rubber sole means I can sprint after a toddler on a scooter (let’s be honest, that’s most of my life these days). I bought these to especially go with (shorter) skirts. Remember boots and skirts? Retro mom style. An awesome pair of clean-lined elegant boots means you can wear a loose-fitting shift sweatshirt dress and a) you’ll feel comfortable as can be in your modern muumuu and b) look down at the boots: still stylin’. I’ll even add to the volume up top with a loose, chunky, cozy sweater over my dress or a turtleneck under my dress, and the stream-lined boots+tights combo still brings it all back together. (I also love this sweatshirt dress for a more casual look.)

To bring the uniform up to fancy, sub in a real dress (date night: mini) and/or real tights. Yep, I said…ok, not actual pantyhose, but opaque-ish tights. Ok, fine, basically black pantyhose. Thank you, Kate Middleton. If you haven’t worn some in a while, you’ve likely forgotten how darn slinky and knee-flattering they are.

Blanket scarves are so versatile, too. Wrap normally to use as a scarf. Wrap around your shoulders for a capelet effect, perfect to dress the outfit up for a night out… or slightly fancier gig than a sandbox. Or, just toss over your shoulders and safety pin it shut for a poncho look on warmer days. Again, the explosion of layers up top are balanced by the tights and boots.

The Woolrich jacket also appeared in my Fall round up, and it’s even better than I thought it’d be. It holds up in the rain, and has MASSIVE HUGE pockets perfect for holding crumpled receipts, wrappers, tissues, an assortment of toddler hair clip, keys, cash, and phone. Who even needs a bag anymore with all this storage potential? The BAGGU bag here is dirt-cheap and thick canvas, and it’s become my go-to for slinging over my shoulder on the way out the door; I sub in a leather crossbody bag for a slightly less-casual look.

What are all of you wearing these days?
