San Francisco Mom Style: Summer 2015

Wednesday June 24, 2015

Rest of the country, say hello to Summer style in San Francisco, featuring wool sweaters, scarves, and nary a sandal or flip flop. Confused? So are we.

Dressing for Summer can be quite the predicament here, whether you’re a mom or not. I’ve been keeping track (re: stalking) the moms around town to see how they handle the 60 degree, foggy weather. As always, the moms are rocking it.

I spotted this mom at the zoo. The outfit is absolute comfortable prepster, and I’m now in awe of the Longchamp-messenger-bag-as-diaper-bag. What an awesome idea. It’s probably incredibly light weight.

I know. I know. Yes, those are a pair of skinny denim overalls. And yet, it totally worked. Trust me. This mom looked absolutely fabulous.

The navy moto jackets warms the outfit up while also splitting up the overall-iness of it all. Dity for the skinny belt. The black wedges looked surprisingly comfortable and summery (while still closed-toe so therefore warm), and seemed to hold up to my sprint-ready mom shoe requirement.

She completely nailed the comfortable-functional-insanely-cool mom outfit.

I spotted this mom in Union Square on Father’s Day, and the rest of her family was also dressed well, so she may have been off to a nice brunch.

Dressing up, while also having to corral children, is a special hardship. A ponte jacket and skinny jeans are an easy/good way to look polished, but also provide enough flexibility and give that if you, say, find yourself needing to haul a child out of a restaurant in a football hold, you can totally do that.

White lace is huge this summer (so I hear), and this is a nice way to do it in our climate. Of course, I’ve already said a ton about d’orsay flats and their mom friendliness.

This mom was at the playground, and by far the most energetic of the bunch. I appreciated the contrasts — the all-black rocker outfit paired with a sweet polar bear necklace. The woven flats are summery, but provide enough foot-coverage that she seemed perfectly comfortable on a particularly blustery morning.

I’ve seen a lot of pregnant women and moms rocking the dolman-sleeved sweater, and it always looks fantastic. I think we might all need to add it to our wardrobes. Make sure the arms are fitted, though, to provide some structure to a very loose top. See also: Ray-Ban Wayfarers. They are the single-handed easiest way to take an outfit from basic to cool.
