Mother’s Day Gift Guide: For the Mama in Your Life Whose Idea of a Good Time is a Book and Some Tea

Tuesday May 5, 2015

This popped up at our door last week, a very sweet gift from my mother-in-law. (Who I’m guessing noticed I spent the entire (sick) week at her home sipping tea and reading.)

The porcelain tea infuser cup is beautiful and fragile and delicate — exactly the things that you think you have to banish from your home once your toddler can reach countertops and open cabinets.

But, as Dave put Bean down for bed last Friday, I grabbed my fancy tea cup, some Strawberry Blush Rose Oolong Tea and a delicious book and sunk deep down into an armchair. After a week of battling moths and toddlers (and laying down a new bathroom floor for funsies), this was exactly what my body needed. I know wine is the ha-ha wink-wink stereotypical bedtime drink for mothers, but nothing beat this porcelain cup-funny book combo. All that tension slipped right away.

This is something I would have never bought for myself — too likely to break, I’ll never use it, so frilly, I already have enough mugs, whatever other excuse we come up with to make us put down the pretty things — and so it was a perfect mother’s day gift. (And extra special as a gift from my mother-in-law and fellow member of the mom tribe. “I know, I know” it says as she pats my hand.)

This tea set is the Radiant Flower Gift Collection box from Teavana. The packaging was beautiful too.

David’s Tea also sells very pretty tea cups and a wide selection of loose teas, and there are stores in Cow Hollow, Russian Hill, and Noe Valley.
