Friday Link Roundup: Alamo Drafthouse Finally Opening! and an SF Ramen Boom

Friday December 11, 2015

What are you all up to this weekend? Some of our favorite friends are throwing holiday parties, and our nephew is also turning 5! It’s going to be a festive and happy weekend. (A significant improvement over last weekend, the time I had the fever and the hyena cough, and still dragged all of us out to the beach for holiday photos darnit.)

From around the web this week:

In local news, the countdown to the Alamo Drafthouse on Mission Street is ON. They’re buying up Le Video’s film collection and Eater has their menu. Opening is scheduled for December 17th. (!!!!!!)

Less funny on Mission Street, the vacant shell of The Fizzary has turned…felonious. To say the least. And then the master tenant took things into his own hands, to alert the police. (Trust me, click through to see the image.)

Also on Eater, we’re in the midst of a ramen boom. MMMMmmm.

The New York Times did a “36 Hours in Oakland” feature.

This sea anemone installation in Taiwan is awesome, although I imagine I’d lose Bean for a solid half hour if she had a go at it.

Also in animals, an update on Brooklyn’s Painted Bunting. A cat stalking it HAS BEEN CAPTURED. Painted Bunting, you are safe from harm once again! (If we get weekly updates on the Painted Bunting, my heart will be happy and my December will be complete.)

The Toast highlighted a Tumblr called Actual Teen vs. Adult Teen, showing what actual actors looked liked as teens versus the teens they portrayed when in their 20s. It’s awesome. (I maintain that if TV shows used real teens, we’d all be totally creeped out by all the shenanigans.) (Because real teens LOOK LIKE BABIES.)
