Have a Great Weekend: Yosemite’s Firefall and Other Beautiful Photos

Friday February 19, 2016

Any fun weekend plans? We’ll be recuperating from our latest bout of fever and colds (seriously, this winter) and seeing a friend off to the East Bay. After seeing other friends off to Marin just last weekend. This is San Francisco 2016: If people aren’t actually moving away, they’re thinking and talking about it.

From around the web this week:

Ocean Beach beach fires are still a-go. (I didn’t realize they were nearly regulated.) (One of my SF pipe dreams is to have a clam/mussel bake on Ocean Beach one day. Make it happen, somebody!)

Steph Curry continues to be the most gracious best.

The New York Times coverage of the Westminster Dog Show was completely charming, as live-blogged by a journalist, sports reporter and sports editor. Also full of very fun aristocratic dog facts. I think some of you are into that sorta thing.

Yosemite’s Firefall happened for the first time in years! The photos are AMAZING (that is water, not lava), and SF Gate talked to one of the photographers.

Also in photography this week, I love these photos of fabulous New Yorkers braving the snow. Four inch heels stop for no weather.

And even more in photography, see some ancient extinct flowers trapped in amber: “they landed in the sticky sap of a tree that is now extinct, in a kind of forest that no longer exists on Earth.” Hauntingly beautiful.

A Dutch artist rendered a 2016 London city scape to correspond exactly to a 1616 London city scape. I love how you can still see the cathedral spires, now surrounded by modern towers. Just like The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton.

We’ve gotten into space recently, and so these NASA futuristic space travel posters are just extra awesome right now. I think Kepler-16B wins, just for the double shadows, although Jupiter looks super groovy.

Have a great weekend everyone!
