Friday Link Round Up: Happy Mother’s Day!

Friday May 8, 2015

One thing I underestimated when I became a stay-at-home-mom is how very lovely Fridays would still feel. I still count down the minutes to 5:30pm Friday.

Have a great weekend everyone, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there. I wish you all a pancake breakfast and a quiet day of lounging and watching terrible/awesome movies.

From around the web this week:

If you’ve ever gotten a manicure, this NY Times investigative report is a must read. You probably won’t be surprised to know that these women are being exploited at the cost of cheap manicures and pedicures, but understanding the degree of exploitation (some aren’t paid, some make $3-10 a day) and putting a face to the exploitation makes for a gut-wrenching read.

The California drought is on all of our minds, and this New Yorker piece on the Sultan Sea gets to the heart of what a complex issue water is (and has been) in California.

Is 99 degrees a fever? Informative!

A friend recently convinced all of us she bought The Perfect Dress — for work, for drinks, for leading conference sessions, for weddings. Contoured, slimming, flaw-erasing and chic. And, it’s on sale!

For those of you in SF, SFist has the casting call for that 94110 show about tech executives in the Mission. We’re going to have to hate-watch it together, crying into our popcorn and Twizzlers.

Also in entertainment news, they’re making a Mean Girls sequel? Called Mean Moms? I’m very in.

Cute cartoons depicting the differences between NY and SF. (I don’t agree with all of it. The Local’s Corner one is slightly egregious. But, yes to SF’s penchant for judging silently!)

Another whale washed up on shore in Pacifica, this time a humpback whale. That’s two whales in three weeks.
