A New Skin Care Regimen

Thursday February 18, 2016

Several months ago, a few of us were enjoying an after-work glass of wine when the conversation stumbled into skincare, or the lack thereof. A friend and I joked that we basically hadn’t changed anything up since college, several careers and children ago. Then our Friend With The Good Skin started in on her skin care regimen.

Many things were shouted in the ensuing moments. A) wait, you have a skin care regimen b) your skin doesn’t just naturally look like that? and c) TELL US EVERYTHING YOU DO send links with the exact products and instructions thank you.

The glory of her skincare regimen is that it doesn’t require different soaps, face moisturizers, or eye creams. You just use what you’ve been using, but add a few products here and there. The products are all reasonably priced too — no $60 creams or anything. It seemed highly doable, even for two tired moms.

It’s been four months since, and I can verify that I saw changes almost immediately and completely different skin texture within a few weeks. (And then went onto Sick December and gave it all up, then had to get back on the horse in Regretful January because my face had started looking like Robert Redfords’ again.)

Here’s what you’ll need:

And here’s the regimen:

Morning: wash face with usual soap. Then, apply hyaluronic acid. Let dry for a couple minutes, then apply usual face moisturizer and eye cream.

Evening: wash face with soap. Then, apply Vitamin C Serum. Let dry for a couple minutes, then apply hyaluronic acid. Let dry for a couple minutes. Then apply usual moisturizer and eye cream.

Twice a week: shave face with Twinkle face razor

Once a week: at night, wash face with soap and apply Glycolic Acid Cream. Don’t apply any other serums or moisturizer.

That’s not too bad, right? The hyaluronic acid (which feels like putting silky water on your face) lets more moisture into your skin and plumps it up. The Vitamin C Serum wards off sun spots (important in California). And the Glycolic Acid Cream exfoliates (and burns a little).

Now, the whole “shaving your face” thing might be a bit much, but as my friend noted, “well, you know when your boyfriend/husband has just shaved, and his face is baby soft? Well, yeah. That’s why you shave your face too.” The shaving sloughs off dead skin, again leading you hopefully to smoother skin. She also swears it’s a thing people in Hollywood do. Here’s a video to show you how to do it.

As my friend explained, as your face gets smoother and smoother, you’ll hear this pok pok pok sound when you put lotion on. It’s true. It actually happens. It’s pretty cool.

  4. Good luck! It works wonders, seriously. I’ve been doing it, friends do it, my mother-in-law now does it, and we all remark on how improved our skin is.
