Well. I hoped to publish my SF Voting Guide today, but DEAR LORD there are even more ballot measures and state propositions than I thought. Does this happen every presidential election year? Don’t they know that we’re already having enough of a electoral anxiety crisis without adding dozens of ballot measures to the mix?
Anyway. Instead of that, let’s focus on the Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. The gates are built along a lush green hillside path, weaving in and out of other pathways. The gates can be dense like this or sparse and ornate, or interrupted by a cliffside shrine offering a sudden vista of the shrines below. Walking through them is like a quiet meditation of wonder. I think we could all use a mind-tranquilizing stroll through these gates right now, don’t you think?
Til tomorrow, hopefully this time with a voter’s guide!
