Usually, former World Expo sites are just weird. I’m thinking of New York’s modernism-circa-1940 “World of Tomorrow” in Queens. Or, more locally, Treasure Island’s Golden Gate International Exposition featuring an 80-ft tall statute of Pacifica and chromotherapy spotlights.
San Diego’s world fair on the other hand, deposited an ornate, pink Spanish Colonial Revival complex right in the heart of lush Balboa Park. Hopefully, I’ll get to write about it more later.
