(From the Berkeley Bowl this weekend.)
The lovely Sylvie at Sly Wit nominated me for some kind of blog award. It’s the Versatile Blogger Award, because I guess I can write about both San Francisco AND San Diego. THANK YOU, Sylvie!
So, the nomination comes with rules and responsibilities. No, it’s not a ticket to the Vanity Fair afterparty; it’s like actual work. Let’s get this ball rolling. Warning: this is going to get long and uncomfortable.
Seven Random Things About Myself:
1. I’m a hoog politics junky. Although you guys probably already knew that. I mean, who else moves to DC?
2. I’ve been sewing since I was in high school. I used to make my own clothes when I lived in NY. Last project was a couch slipcover.
3. I quote Back to the Beach (1987 critically-not-acclaimed film staring Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon) like it’s a tic. It is especially bad when I’m in LA (“Mom, mom, do you know who that was??”) or if I’m near a beach, any beach. Dave saw it in a theater when it came out, so clearly, we were meant for each other from a very young age.
4. Not related, I’m a trained film projectionist. Like, a legit projectionist who switches from reel to reel. No platters for me, thanks.
5. (This is getting hard) I broke my fingers in a roller skating accident in 6th grade.
6. I don’t like the Cowgirl Creamery Cheeses. Yeah, I said it. I like their pushy salespeople even less.
7. (I have no idea anymore.) I’m usually writing for this site while eating a pound of gummy candy. Preferably peachie rings, gummy bears if it’s a particularly trying piece.
Fifteen Blogs I’d Like to Nominate
(FIFTEEN? That’s a lot of blogs. I…don’t think I follow that many blogs, or blogs that are still blogs and haven’t moved on to systems capable of sustaining life like Apartment Therapy.) Let’s break this down.
Blogs I actually read:
1. Jenna at No Name Farm/Ranch, for raising a flock of goats and puppies outside Austin, TX and letting us live vicariously through her feats.
2. The photographers at All City SF for truly awesome urban photography. They intimidate me.
3. Unhappy Hipsters for making the staid and dreary Dwell hysterical.
4. Catalog Living for pointing out how ludicrous (and yet desirable) the Pottery Barn catalogs are.
5. F*** Your Noguchi Coffee Table. Tumblr counts, right? This is the antidote to all the Apartment Therapy indoctrination.
6. SF Great Streets Documenting all that is new in San Francisco’s urban renewal, like bike lanes and parklets.
7. Everywhereist A hysterically funny urban traveler.
Blogs I just found because I needed to fill this out, but they seem to be really good/funny and isn’t that why we’re all here:
8. San Francisco is Weird: A Guide for New Yorkers and Other Normal People I really wish this guy would update again.
9. Displaced Smart and funny writing on San Francisco/life. I kinda want her to be my friend.
10. Pie v. Cake This blog wins best name, I think. They apparently ALSO love Spike’s Toasted Marshmallow Shake.
11. Hungry Foodies Pharmacy A foodie with a Big Green Egg habit… I will also be living vicariously through her awesome photos and recipes.
12. The SF Chronicles She/he/it is taking on 7×7 SF’s Big Eat 2012 List…which kinda makes me want to do it now too.
13. Whilst in SF (Tumblr counts.) It’s real funny.
14. House and Fig Sarah and her husband just tore down all the walls in their SF home and are rebuilding it. I’m hoping they’ll do my apartment next.
15. Using San Francisco History Incredibly researched and informative blog on public projects incorporating SF’s history. Get your nerd on here.
FIFTEEN. And, a pretty awesome fifteen at that. I’m kinda excited about all these new blogs to follow.
YOU WIN, VERSATILE BLOGGER AWARD.
