WE JUST SAW WHALES. BREACHING. OFF THE COAST OF FORT FUNSTON. LIFE IS AFFIRMED ALL IS WELL. THAT WAS SPECTACULAR.
It was beautiful and wondrous and majestic and it is no wonder Bean is obsessed with marine life in general and whales in particular.
And that is what it’s like to live here. You may have just finished up a trying week (otherwise known as two and a half), and you may be feeling like the grumpiest no-fun mom, but then you drive 20 minutes and all of a sudden whales start breaching in the Pacific. And like that, your brow unfurrows, your shoulders relax, and life is amazing.
From around the web this week:
Someone charted literary road trips across America. So, Dave, it looks like we unwittingly copied The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test road trip on our move from DC to SF. So cool!
Don’t trust those Uber cars you see circling on your phone! It’s just a screensaver! I didn’t make that up! And I may have laughed out loud when I read this piece. Oh, Uber.
The Lake County forest fire is up to 15,000 acres. Terrifying.
In somewhat related news, tonight’s blue moon may actually appear blue due to particles in the air from all of these forest fires. Interesting.
Citylab took a look at New York’s most walkable sidewalks and what they had in common. Parking garages, blank walled condo towers, and a 6-lane boulevard…who knew? (Kidding! Obviously. You guys knew I was kidding right? Urban planning jokes!)
Also in New York, I’m going to need Instagrammers to get on this: This Saturday night, the Empire State Building will be bathed in images of endangered species.
This Swedish apartment (palace) is making me feel better about my peach bathroom. Peach, it’s coming back, y’all.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
