Friday Link Round Up: Energy Efficiency Scorecards and Preppy Watch Bands

Friday June 12, 2015

This week has been all about seashells and beaches and waves. I look at Dave and Bean, pants rolled up, running, shrieking, laughing at the waves, and stand in awe of this little girl’s childhood home. I sometimes lament that she doesn’t have the crimson and golden hued Autumn of my childhood, but weeks like this, I realize she’ll have her own childhood, her own memories and smells. And they aren’t too shabby.

I hope all of you have a great weekend!

From around the web this week:

The Onion nails our predicament: Report: San Francisco to Shut Doors Over Rising Rent. ” ‘I’m not sure how we’re going to move such a large Chinatown all the way out there, not to mention the Golden Gate Bridge. Chances are we’ll have to leave those behind,’ Khoo added.” Indeed.

Wondering how the Supervisors and Ed Lee are doing on the 22-day Muni Challenge? It’s a mixed bag. Scott Weiner and John Avalos are in the lead. SFist and Streetsblog have some amusing tweets from the Supervisors’ journeys. (Jane Kim had to wait 21 minutes for a 19-Polk. Avalos accidentally boarded a K-Ingleside instead of a J-Church. Weiner, after riding the 24-Divis, noted it needed more service (YES IT DOES).)

Speaking of our wonderful public transit, the American Council of Energy Efficient Economy put out a City Energy Efficiency scorecard, and San Francisco came in 4th! Good job, city. Boston came in first. Worst were Oklahoma City and Birmingham.

In other news, a friend recently bought these Henry and Belle jeans, and I couldn’t get over how awesome they looked on her. I think everyone might have to go out and buy them.

Mira Jacob published a collection of conversations with her mixed-race son and it was the most poignant and hilarious thing I’ve read all week. What a curious and brilliant little boy.

My watch band broke this week, leaving me in a lurch. But, now I know about NATO watch straps so it’s all evened out. They’re inexpensive and the perfect way to preppy yourself up for a day on the bay or beach. I basically summer with Mimi and Kip on the Cape, now.
