Back when Baby Bean was still growing out of wardrobes every 2 or 3 months, we shopped exclusively at used kid stores. Or “consignment stores” if you’re feeling fancy.
The picking is so good at these stores, it’s almost a shame to buy anything brand new. We would shop at our favorite used clothing stores first, then round out the rest of her temporary wardrobe with Old Navy and Gap sale items.
Here are my top four stores:
Chloe’s Closet — Bernal Heights, Inner Sunset, Berkeley
If you live in SF, you likely already know about Chloe’s Closet. This is my go-to source for outerwear, rain coats, and rain boots. (Tip: boys outerwear is often higher quality (with brands like North Face and Patagonia) than girls. I have no idea why. If you have a girl, check the boys’ section too.)
Outgrown — San Rafael
Marin, I love you and you are too much. This store was why Infant Bean wore $2 Donna Karen outfits.
Play it Again Kids — San Rafael
Also great for oddly luxurious baby clothes, but this place is the best for deeply discounted and lightly used baby furniture and gear.
Lauren’s Closet — Alameda
The holy grail of used children’s clothes. Very cute stuff, little sign they were ever worn. Some of Bean’s favorite dresses are from here, as well as great jackets and jeans. (I’m still internally debating putting this shop out there because I want it all to myself.)
