Twenty three foot bunnies have taken over Civic Center Plaza. Running from April 4th to the 25th, the bunnies are part of an installation called Intrude by Australian artist Amanda Parer. The installation is traveling the globe, to publicize how rabbits, brought to Australia by settlers in 1788, have become an ineradicable invasive species, wrecking environmental havoc. So, yes, this exhibit is about killing off said bunnies, not glorifying them…
The bunnies look especially cool at night, lit up against glowing City Hall. This would make for a fun stop on the way to dinner in Hayes Valley, or for a midday picnic catered by one of Civic Center’s lunch trucks. Just maybe don’t tell the kids about massive bunny extermination.
