Do You Stitch Fix?

Monday September 21, 2015

For a half year now, any get-together with girlfriends has included some oohing and aahing over a Stitch Fix find. I’ve been so intrigued that a friend invited me over a few weeks ago to check out her latest Stitch Fix shipment.

Stitch Fix bills itself as an online personal shopper. You can sign in and create your style profile. This includes typical things like your size, body quirks (short torso, short legs, etc), and problem areas. You can also specify what items of clothes you need, and what (if any) style changes you’d like to explore. New moms, you can even tell them that you’re shopping for a post partum wardrobe!!! And extra bonus: you can also give them a budget. (So you don’t end up with a $150 silk blouse that is perfection but also needs to go right back.)

Then, Stitch Fix sends you a box of five goodies they’ve picked out especially for you and your body type. You get to try everything on, and send back anything you don’t want. You only pay for what you keep (if you don’t keep anything, you do have to pay a $20 consultation fee.) When you send items back, you can explain why you didn’t like them, so the stylists know how to correct it for your next shipment.

So, when my friend invited me over, she’d somehow managed not to tear the (pretty!) box open and actually waited for me and my camera to show up. What extreme patience.

Inside, all the items were also exquisitely wrapped. A helpful card has photos of all the items in your box along with a couple outfit ideas and styling suggestions.

What I’ve been most impressed with is that friends with completely opposite personal styles and body shapes all love the service. This friend was looking for formal work attire. Another friend used it for lounge wear. One friend hardly strays from blacks and navies, while another friend is known for her brightly colored sun dresses. They’re all built differently, and each of them routinely gets clothes that fit perfectly straight out of the box. It’s wizardry.

I’m intrigued, y’all. Despite my extremely tiny wardrobe these days. I might give it a go, though, when it’s time to restock my closet. It seems like a convenient way to find new clothes that actually fit and look great. It seems to be a fantastic boon for moms, who want to be stylish but also doesn’t involve dragging a toddler into Bloomingdales where you have 15 minutes to frantically look around until your sweet little time bomb decides it’s time to go. (We shall not discuss the hilarity/insanity of even attempting to try clothes on with a toddler in the vicinity.)

Have you used Stitch Fix? Does it seem like something you’d ever try?
