Not only is this trick useful, but it’s scientifically proven!
Well, I think it is. Dave and I started implementing this years ago after we read an article in The New York Times, as you do. And of course now I can’t find it.
Ready? Put a cold compress over your forehead.
When your mind is racing, your frontal lobe goes into overdrive. Your frontal lobe is in charge of things like motivation, short term memory and planning. Sound familiar? So, when you’re up late at night, obsessively compiling and re-compiling your to-do list for the next day… blame your frontal lobe.
The scientific part is that when your frontal lobe goes into overdrive, it’s also slightly heating up. By putting a cold compress on your forehead, you’re forcing things to shut down for the night.
Dave and I can both vouch for this. Whether it’s your frontal lobe cooling or just the shock of cold rubber on your forehead, the trick works wonders for quieting your mind.
