When/How Do You Find Time to Exercise?

Wednesday March 16, 2016

I think this might be the question people most often ask me. Not because I’m a model of finding time to exercise (I’d rather sleep in, I’d rather go on adventures, I’d rather pretty much do anything else) but because, well, I write a website and people think I might have some idea?

With longer daylight hours, I’ve started running in the evenings again. I can get a run in after dinner while Dave and Bean go through the evening routine, and be home right before bedtime. Once the days get longer, I’ll run after bedtime.

I realize we are extremely lucky to be able to wing this – Dave is home before dinner every day, and I don’t work in the traditional sense. A lot of you have to work late, or have partners that work late, or have other demands on your schedule that you can’t just hand off to someone else for a half hour.

When do all of you find time to work out? Is it piecemeal and tightly scheduled in like me, or have you been able to figure out a time of day that works? Or, have you just prioritized it above other things like sleeping in or hanging out with family?

I think this is the one thing I hear most from other mothers, and actually from other people period. In many ways, we think of working out as an attainable and restorative luxury…that’s just out of reach most days.
I’d love to hear from all of you who have figured this out. When do you find time to exercise? Was it fairly easy to find time in your schedule for it, or did you have to figure a few logistics out first in order to get started? Help some folks out!

  1. 6 months post-partum, I’m still peeing my pants if I hustle across the street. but even if I didn’t need size 20 Pampers, I don’t know how I’d fit exercise into my schedule 🙁
