Friday Round Up: SF Beer Week Kicks Off, Banishing Small Talk, and Other SF News

Friday February 6, 2015

We got hit with the triple toddler whammy of teething, sickness, and doctor’s appointments this week. It was the perfect excuse to build a blanket nest on the sofa and watch “Pippi Longstocking.” I never realized how perfect it is for kids: boats, pirate booty, no parents, midnight pancakes, motorcycles, ice cream food fights, running away with a helicopter, and bribing adults with gold? Bean was riveted.

Tonight, one of our favorite people is in town. Wish us luck convincing him to move back to SF!

From around the web this week, mostly a lot of SF news:

Muni will be holding a pre-proposal meeting for that Van Ness BRT project this week, which means it’s one step closer to breaking ground!! Breathe easy 47 and 49 riders, hope is on the way.

Also, SF might get that city-wide 20 mph speed limit after all. I wonder how it’s going in NY. Some SF neighborhoods would be absolutely transformed.

A brilliant way to turn small talk into an interesting discussion

Buzzfeed, I know. But it’s totally true: The 22 Stages of Visiting Your Public Library. Every day at the San Francisco Public Library really is the best day of my life. This week’s obsession: Rustic Swedish design.

A new restaurant opening on Valencia this week puts vegetables on the entree menu and relegates meats to the sides. I love it.

Oh, hey, did you know SF Beer Week kicks off tonight? It runs from February 6th to the 15th. Eater highlights the best beer week events while SFist tells you which beers you need to try. Here’s the full schedule of galas and tap takeovers.
