Friday Link Roundup: SJ Cops Living in RVs, Bike Share Booming, and the Twin Towers

Friday September 9, 2016

What are you all up to this weekend? Dave and I are actually going out with friends for the first time since Bean was born. I know! Three and a half years! Shameful! We usually go out on dates, or we’ll have friends over, or we each go out with friends. We’ve tried to both leave to see friends, but things always fell through or it didn’t work out for one reason or another. Cross your fingers that we both actually leave the apartment tomorrow night!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

From around the web this week:

Big bike news out today that SF Bike Share finally has a sponser! …And it’s the Ford Motor Company. An unexpected pairing (are they diversifying?), but it means 10 times more bikes out there.

In other bike news, Golden Gate Park will slowly be adding speed humps to get cars/people to slow down, following the death of a cyclist back in June.

Did you see this New York Times piece about pilots and other airline employees living in RVs in LAX’s employee parking? It reminded me of another story from last month about San Jose PD having an issue with cops living in RVs outside police stations. When will California do something about the state-wide housing crisis?

At least we have The Onion to remind us of the ridiculousness of it all.

From The New Yorker, I loved this photoessay by Brian Rose of when the Twin Towers stood.

Also at The New Yorker, this piece on Pete Wills, New York Times restaurant critic, was delicious: “The danger is getting friendly with the people you should feel free to destroy.”

Train your eye to visually balance rooms. I need to get on this.
