Friday Link Roundup: SF’s Stunning Tribute to Prince and a Couple Hilarious PSA’s

Friday April 22, 2016

How are all your weekends looking? Dave is headed out of town for work, so Bean and I will be a) planning fun and indulgent mother-daughter adventures b) remodeling the joint or c) both. Probably (c).

From around the web this week:

The sunset last night over purple-lit City Hall was moody and glorious. A fitting tribute to a mysterious and glorious man.

If you feel strongly about the Mission Street red lanes, now is the time to speak out. (I have yet to read a news report that interviews an actual bus rider on the 14 or 49. SURELY YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE ON THE 49. IT IS CONSISTENTLY PACKED.)

Curbed put together a mapped-out primer on all the different types of Victorian architecture in SF. Fascinating!

As we all pray and giving healing thoughts for Stephen Curry and his ankle, I thought you might get a kick out of a PSA he filmed with President Obama.

Here’s another PSA brought to us from New Zealand, which proposes a laugh-til-you-cry solution to distracted driving. You guys, this just might work!

The Onion: depressing yet true.

This Julia Childs trick to a perfect poached egg is brilliant and amazing.

Did you catch any of Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebrations yesterday? I can never wrap my head around the fact that she was crowned when she was only 25. Here is a years-old New Yorker piece on what it was like for Thomas Struth (be still my heart) to photograph the Queen for the National Portrait Gallery. The photo is amazing, of course, and I love how the (poor, always 2nd) Duke of Edinburgh kinda blends into the furniture and wallpaper while Queen Elizabeth just radiates.

Still my all-time favorite Prince interview.
