ALERT! ALERT! Ben & Jerry’s Now Makes Vegan Ice Cream

Tuesday September 27, 2016

Will wonders never cease?

The other week, I noticed these pop up at our local supermarket. Ben & Jerry’s in vegan form is nearly too good to be true.

This summer, Ben & Jerry’s introduced 4 new flavors that are completely vegan: PB & Cookies, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Coffee Caramel Fudge, and Chunky Monkey.

(For those of you on the MSPI elimination diet, it does unfortunately have soy lecithin in it, so be careful if you’re dealing with a soy intolerance. It also contains tree nuts.)

The company put the vegan flavors through 70-90 test trials to figure out just the right recipe, and they’ve gotten pretty close. NOW, now, obviously this isn’t going to be as creamy and luscious as the non-vegan flavors (come on, even other ice cream brands aren’t as creamy and luscious as regular Ben & Jerry’s), but that Ben & Jerry’s flavor is all there. It’s delicious.

This move towards common products going dairy-free is such a boon to people with food allergies and intolerances. Is it sad that I’m thankful that companies know that we are out here? Last week, I took Bean out for her first Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to celebrate her first week of preschool. This would never have been possible even 3 years ago.

Thank you, Ben & Jerry’s!
