Friday Link Roundup: BART Troubles and Japan’s New Wildlife Cafes

Friday March 18, 2016

How did we wake up to Spring this week? How lovely is this? Bean and I spent our week chasing each other through the poppies at the Conservatory of Flowers and watching gardeners do their magic, having a sushi picnic under Cherry Blossoms in Japantown, and going on an urban nature treasure hunt. Welcome back, Sun, we’ve missed you.

Thanks to all of you who reached out after my sad post last Friday. You really made me feel less alone, sharing your equally toddler-and-kid-woe-befallen weeks. (Things got dramatically better this week, maybe because, oh I don’t know, maybe because naps have returned once again? GO TO SLEEP, CHILD.)

From around the web this week:

It’s been a rough week for BART and BART riders alike, and it seems the voltage problems aren’t going to get better any time soon. Which means BART won’t be getting better anytime soon.

Related, BART’s response was to tweet very honestly about why their trains aren’t running properly. Wow, honesty over Twitter, is so…unexpected. Taylor Huckaby is BOLD.

In happier train news, San Rafael’s new SMART train car pulled up this week. Service will begin to Santa Rosa by the end of the year.

Finally in Bay Area news, this interactive zip code map shows you which presidential campaigns your neighborhood has donated to. I am in DEEP Bernie Sanders territory, who knew?

How a city’s windows tell it’s architectural story. (I LOVE THIS. Notting Hill, you are too adorable. And pastel.)

The Washington Post presents Quiz: Can we guess your age, income, and gender based solely on what apps you use? (Turns out I use my phone like a single, middle-aged man. I have no idea how to interpret that. Need more Snapchat?)

This meme had me laughing all week, but clearly the best was sloth or pain au chocolat.

The New Yorker offers an adult friend finder questionnaire.

And, the best for last, Japan sees our copycat cat cafes, and raises us….BABY OWL CAFES.
