The rains have finally come to San Francisco, which is great news for drought recovery. But, I’m imagining throngs of parents scrambling to figure out what to do with their kids when an afternoon at the playground isn’t in the cards.
We just aren’t used to rain here.
Today, Bean and I headed to the Children’s Creativity Museum to escape the gloom. Bean had a blast and insisted repeatedly that the museum was not in fact closing, so no need to go home, problem solved.
The museum is much more open-ended than other children’s museums — you won’t find a play supermarket or diner. The focus is on building and creating. There’s a crafting area, foam putty area, large foam blocks, magnetiles and magnetized walls. (I’ve noticed parents also have a hard time not playing with everything.)
The museum also has special sing-a-long and dance-a-long programs throughout the week, most are free with admission.
For older kids, there is a music video studio (with little girls lined up ready to sing “Let It Go”) complete with green screen and costumes. We haven’t ventured into the animation studio yet, but I’ve been amazed at all the kids sitting quietly, thoroughly focused on their work.
Where do you go on rainy days?
