Friday Link Roundup: About that Dream House Raffle and Donald Trump, as Explained by a Chaucer Scholar

Friday March 11, 2016

How were all of your weeks? I had a tough one on the mom front. The kind of week where you can’t even hide it from friends who ask innocently/pleasantly “how’ve you been?!” Because the stress and guilt and feelings of self-doubt are splayed out all across your eyes and smile.

Three lasts for an entire year, huh? That’s how this works?

I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend, with hopefully some damp redwood hikes. Life always seems so much less complicated on a trail. What are you up to?

From around the web this week:

The New York Times revisited San Francisco’s real estate woes, and San Franciscans got annoyed while also kinda agreeing.

SFist looked into that Dream House raffle, whose ads you’ve likely seen posted all over Muni every year.

The perfect book with which to celebrate the Giant’s spring training kicking off this week.

If you haven’t been watching The People v OJ Simpson on FX, I’m going to insist you start. I’ve never seen the struggle of a working mother portrayed so honestly, heartbreakingly, and brilliantly.

Deconstructed kitchens via Apartment Therapy. I think I love it.

A discussion on Mr. Rogers and urban planning: “The heart of Mister Rogers’ show is an acceptance of difference, a kindness towards the surrounding urban world and the people that live in it..” You’re the best, Mr. Rogers.

A Chaucer scholar linguistically analyzes Donald Trump’s tweets.

A really beautiful piece on running and memories, how running springs forth involuntary memories, enabling us to learn from and re-interpret our past experiences.

Sign me up for these DIY concrete kits. (This will totally be happening.)

A friend got me hooked on The Longest Shortest Time podcast, and this episode wherein a mother of two laughs and cries her way through describing her pregnancy-related and postpartum anxiety is a must-listen-to for any expectant, new, or experienced mother.

Have a great weekend!
