Friday Link Roundup: Newly Opened Alamo Drafthouse in SF and a Swedish Christmas Morning

Friday December 18, 2015

How is everyone’s weekend looking? We’re taking Dave’s mom and Bean to see the Nutcracker this weekend. No idea how she’ll take it! We’ll probably also make some gingerbread cookies, kicking off Christmas Baking Week.

From around the web this week:

Speaking of ballet, Bean and I sank into a YouTube black hole of ballerinas performing fouttes this week, and discovered this clip of Natalia Osipova. Jaw dropping.

In San Francisco news: Hey Polk Street! You might be getting the first cheapy version of Whole Foods. (In the space formerly occupied by Lombardi Sports, RIP.)

Bad news for all the cyclists navigating The Wiggle: The Board of Supervisors didn’t get enough votes on the bike-yield law to overcome Mayor Ed Lee’s veto.

Mission Local interviewed the owner of SF’s Alamo Drafthouse, which opened last night to a sold-out Star Wars screening. It’s great to see the New Mission Theater’s marquee lit up.

Did you know the East Bay Municipal Utility District publishes a periodic report on the biggest water users? The list is amazing — Kristi Yamaguchi, Buster Posey. It’s like a who’s-who of East Bay celebs.

If you’re also a politics junky, the New Yorker published a must-read on the last days of John Boehner. Lots of surprising details in there. (Have I ever told you that I used to live near Boehner and used to see him going to/from work? All true.)

These Swedish cardamom/cinnamon rolls would be delightful on Christmas morning.

Kylie at How We Montessori made the pitch for children using knives this week. I think I might be on board.
