A Favorite Thanksgiving Weekend Tradition

Tuesday November 24, 2015

I’m not sure how many times you have to do something before it becomes a tradition. This Thanksgiving tradition crept up on me — on long, dark Sunday night drives back to college, New York, law school, DC. Still cozy from a weekend of spanakopita and family binge-watching of any and all movies on TBS, I’d find myself driftily listening to NPR’s broadcast of Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree.”

And, now, of course, it’s not a real Thanksgiving without it.

Here it is for you. The only way to listen to it is to pretend it’s 1967. Put down all your phones, iPads, and TV. Turn down the lights and transport yourself.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you lovely people. See you on Monday!
