Friday Link Roundup: SF Food and Housing, and a Bra Controversy

Friday August 14, 2015

I think we’re gearing up for a beach weekend, what with this heat wave passing through. I also think I promised Bean I’d take her to a horse ranch this weekend to pick out a horse to come live with us. I don’t know. Conversations get confusing with two year olds.

(I’m hoping once she sees how very large horses are, she’ll think twice. Knowing her, though, she’ll likely double down instead.)

(Toss me any horse ranch recommendations if you have any.)

From around the web this week:

FYI San Franciscans, you’re no longer allowed to drive on Market Street downtown.

The SFPD agreed to back off on cyclists on the wiggle.

So, this is awesome: U.K. will be experimenting with highways that charge electric vehicles as you drive, through something they call “dynamic wireless power transfer.” Um. That is the coolest thing I’ve heard all year.

National Geographic had to change their maps of the world to account for the changes to the arctic ice caps in the past decade. Citylab put 20 years worth of maps in GIF format so we can all ogle the disappearing arctic ice.

Bon Appetit critic calls SF “the best food city in the country right now.” More: “I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such a concentration of exciting and invigorating restaurants in a single year, in a single season. Not even in New York.” Congratulations all you foodie restaurants.

Did you know the San Francisco housing market is insane? No, it’s gotten worse since you just read that sentence.

Related: Did you catch Mission Local’s long piece on Valencia Street last week? It’s sad and fascinating and unreal. I had no idea what commercial rents were going for. I’m still stunned.

Also related, the carwash on Divisadero will be turning into condos. Naturally.

I really want this bracelet, but only my 2 year old would get it.

And hysterical: how do you put on a bra? (Did you know there was more than one way to put on a bra? This is like the time I discovered men’s pants have a little hidden pocket inside the normal pocket. I subsequently checked all of Dave’s pockets to make sure it was true. He was confused by my confusion.) (Via @sly_wit)

Lots of San Francisco news this week!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
