Yes, Go Here Now: Fantastico SF

Tuesday June 23, 2015

You know when you’re sitting in an airport terminal, flipping through an Elle Decor and there’s a photo of some crisp white Shaker bench, surrounded by nothing but a vase holding a massive burly tree branch. And then you’re all, “I want a tree branch.” But you realize A) you don’t live in a farmhouse B) tree poaching is probably frowned upon even in Golden Gate Park and C) you have no idea where you could even buy something like that?

Fantastico.

Or that time you fell in love with all the wee terrariums on Etsy but totally balked at the price tag?

Fantastico.

Or, when you needed a party supply warehouse but just didn’t want to drag yourself down to some store in Daly City?

Fantastico.

Housed in a series of warehouses in SOMA, Fantastico is a crafting, decorating, party wonderland.

I first stumbled onto Fantastico last year, hunting down party supplies. Little did I know that party supplies would be the least interesting thing they carry.

And we are not talking about some small selection of a few tree branches, oh no. What you’re looking at in that photo is aisles of tree branches, in every size and color. Walls and aisles of apothecary jars, terrariums, pots, silk plants, wicker anything, beading, ribbon, Halloween costumes, silk trees, paper plates and cups, party decorations, and balloons. I still haven’t walked the entire store.

The special bonus is not only does Fantastico stock hard-to-find items, but they well them at warehouse prices. Today, I hit up the terrariums and saw large cloches starting at only $17. Unheard of!

If you’re equally into crafting and gardening, Fantastico really is a must-see.
