Friday Link Round Up: Disney Does/Does Not Eliminate Gendered Costumes and SF Pizza Gets Pixar’d

Friday June 5, 2015

We just got back from a morning at Ocean Beach and I finally decided to figure out what these creatures are: velella. The wind has deposited them from the Pacific all over our coastline– that top “sail” is their form of locomotion. Interesting! We also saw tons of live sand dollars, which was very exciting.

Do you have any plans this weekend? If this sunny weather keeps up, we might be off to Off the Grid in the Presidio to check out YMCA’s Learn to Ride bicycle tent. Bean is VERY INTO BICYCLES these days.

From around the web this week:

Speaking of mighty girls: Disney Removes Gender From Branding Thanks to 8 Year Old Girl. As Disney replied, “we understand that all our little jedis enjoy Star Wars.” Which gave me the warm and fuzzies until…

I went to the Disney site and saw…their costumes are still gendered. Did someone forget to tell the web team? Here’s the specific Darth Vader Costume for Boys that the little girl asked about. It’s still listed “for boys.” Boo, Disney.

Moving on, I guess, to Pixar. This clip from Inside Out nails the SF pizza scene. (Dave and I just order plain cheese pizzas now. For the love of God, NO TOPPINGS, please and thank you.)

Also from SFist, what’s better than a baby gray whale? TWIN BABY GRAY WHALES.

This woman’s outfit is perfection.

We’ll soon find out whether Mayor Ed Lee and the Supervisors (that’s an awesome band name) will survive the Muni Challenge.

The Mom Edit may have talked me into these clogs.

A friend and I are currently obsessed with roasted chickpea recipes, and this one looks delicious.
