An Evening With Mission Cheese

Tuesday January 13, 2015

Mission Cheese has become my go-to for any special evening or gift bag. Somehow, a nice block of cheese upgrades any evening spent at home into a special occasion. And, it truly is the perfect gift for the friend that has everything.

While the selection alone would have had me coming back for more, the staff at Mission Cheese is truly exceptional. They’ve kindly put up with my vague cheese requests (“I want a selection of cheeses that could act as a stand alone dinner or at least take the place of meat at the table.” Or, “This is for a friend. She used to live in Italy and she really appreciates fresh cheeses but also likes strong flavors.”) Every time, the person helping me has paused to mentally run through their stock and then excitedly introduced me to cheeses that I’d never heard of before. Their enthusiasm and knowledge is wonderful.

I know cheese mongers have kind of a reputation for being a bit snobbish, but that’s been the exact opposite of my experiences here.

Which is all why I’m really excited to tell you that they have an American Cheese Club. Cheese of the month club? Yes, please. It starts at $65 and includes a selection of three cheeses (1.5 pounds total) that includes tasting notes, information about the farm or cheesery, and wine pairing recommendations. What an awesome monthly splurge.
