Saturday Reading Roundup: Underground bunkers and a New Bay Bridge

Saturday September 7, 2013

Summer is finally here in San Francisco! I can’t wait to head to Ocean Beach. At what point should we get worried about how much sand Bean is ingesting? I mean, it’s going to happen, but when do I have to step in?

First up: New Bay Bridge! New Bay Bridge! Now, go watch it go up in 4 minutes.

Or, you can check out 15 years of Joe Blum’s photographs of its construction. You’ll be awestruck by the complexity of the project, the workers, and Joe Blum himself.

Gifs of NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette. I wish I could have worn #90 as a T-shirt a year ago. (Note: people, let the pregnant lady take a seat. Don’t make me tell you all about round ligament pain.)

Have an extra $1.7 M lying around? You need to spend it on this immaculate underground bunker/house in Las Vegas, complete with back yard, swimming pool, Italian water fountain, “evergreen trees”, and twinkling stars at night. With preserved 70s decor. All 26 ft below ground. It’s amazing.

What it’s like to be a cinephile and new parent. Dave and I are in the throes of this. We even took the accompanying 2013 pop movie quiz for new parents…and failed spectacularly. “White House Down”? Are they serious with that title? And no idea who was in “Man of Steel” (us: “Oh, that was that Superman movie, right?”) or what RIPD is.
