Saturday Reading: The Bay Bridge Closes and Bike Share Starts

Saturday August 31, 2013

Hope your long weekends are off to a good start. This week…

We get a new Bay Bridge come Tuesday! But, people are paying tribute to the wrong part of the Bay Bridge (hint: it’s the Oakland side, you know, where that new shiny bridge has been built.) Buzzfeed’s take on it is heee-larious.

This week, we also got our new Bay Are Bike Share. SF Mag has a useful Q&A on how it works.

More bikes bikes bikes. Refinery 29 has a slideshow of 22 chic SF bikers. (It seems they parked a photographer outside Four Barrel. That’ll do it.)

Atlantic Cities mapped out historic Chinatown’s gambling dens, prostitution houses, opium factories and “female hospitals”. Day trip, anyone?

Streetsblog is running a city kid photo contest.

Congratulations to the mama and papa panda bears at the National Zoo! This article on their reproductive woes had me laughing out loud, tears streaking down my cheeks, the other night. We laugh so we don’t cry, right?

Not what I usually focus on, but this kitchen renovation courtesy of Manhattan Nest is INSANE. And that’s before I tell you it only cost $1,200.
