Other US Cities

Photo of the Day: Busking

Thursday August 16, 2012

The thing about San Francisco is that there is always music playing. Maybe it’s live, maybe it’s out of someone’s boombox (oh, yes, they do it old school), but the city is full of music, all the time. Impromptu salsa parties at the 24th street BART station on Sundays. Friends goofily reenacting the last  scene of Dirty Dancing on their stoop. Or the musicians in our subway tunnels.

And our musicians are good. Like, you actually want to buy one of the CD’s laid out on their guitar case. This guy was terrific.

On  a related note, have you heard of the new busking code in Dublin? To busk, you must have a repertoire that includes at least 20 songs. As one busker explained, the problem is that musicians sit outside the same bar, day in and day out, just playing “Wonderwall” for hours. HAA! Who can blame them, who doesn’t love singing “Wonderwall.”
