Photo of the Day: Broke

Friday December 23, 2011

Eastern Bakery

One by one, we all fell ill this week, including one broken down laptop. While we’re getting fixed up, here’s one of my favorite photos from 2011.

I featured this as part of my Civil Rights Tour of San Francisco, back in April. I always liked how this photo shows a quieter side of Chinatown — the muted colors, the lack of pedestrian traffic. I took it on Grant Avenue (the height of touristy Chinatown) on a Saturday, so I have no idea how I managed to take such a solemn picture.

We’re setting off for our week long trip through California and Arizona to Phoenix in the next hour. Look forward to lots of photos of taco trucks and open desert in the next few weeks.
